New research from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, reported on by Yahoo! News, has just revealed that the most popular of all the hatchbacks is the Ford Fiesta, taking the top spot for new car sales in October.

This model was followed by the Nissan Qashqai, the Volkswagen Golf, the Ford Puma and the Vauxhall Corsa… all of which might be excellent food for thought if you are in the market for a new or used car right now.

Why are hatchbacks so good?

There are all sorts of advantages to owning a hatchback, if you’re weighing your options up at the moment.

They’re a very practical and versatile vehicle, which is perhaps largely why they’re so popular. You can easily use them for the commute to work and it can be simpler to find somewhere to park because they’re so compact. 

But they’re also great for travelling long distances with passengers or lots of bags and luggage in tow, since many come with a flat-folding rear seat to help you create extra space.
