How To Notify The DVLA that you've scrapped your vehicle.
If you've landed on this blog post, you are probably wondering how to notify the DVLA that you have scrapped or sold your vehicle. Let us explain.
The first option you have is sending your completed V5C/3 section off to the DVLA address, which is
DVLA
SWANSEA
SA991BD
The second option is to complete your V5C/3 online HERE. To start, you will need your document reference number and the vehicle registration number. Once you go through the next screen, it will ask you for the scrap dealer's or buyer's address. Once you click next, you can select the date you sold the vehicle and if you would like a confirmation email. Once you click finish, the vehicle owner will have changed, and your road tax will automatically be cancelled.
Sounds simple, But what if you've lost your log book, misplaced it or never received it? Were now going to answer some of the most common questions asked when scrapping a vehicle with no log book.
Don't panic. Car Buying Solutions works with registered ATFs (authorised treatment facilities), which automatically de-register your car with DVLA. In this case, you need to send a covering letter explaining that you are no longer the vehicle's registered keeper and sold it to the scrap car buyer nearest to you.
Yes, it can take up to 6 weeks, but the DVLA will send confirmation to the registered keeper, letting them know they are no longer the registered keeper.
If you don't notify the DVLA, they may still hold you responsible for the vehicle. If a reputable company doesn't scrap your car like Car Buying Solutions, you could get fined up to £1000. You might also see your car driving around again, getting fines for road tax even though you don't own it anymore.
