To help you make up your mind, the good folk over at Top Gear have just published a rundown of the ten most popular used cars that were sold last year, with the Ford Fiesta (perhaps unsurprisingly) taking the top spot.

Described by the magazine as “cheap to run and brilliant to drive”, this could well be the perfect car for you, so perhaps do some reading up to find out more about it.

Or you might be taken with the Vauxhall Corsa, which came in a close second behind the Fiesta, praised by Top Gear for being a great car at an affordable price… super important these days given the cost of living crisis that shows no signs of slowing down just yet.

And then there’s the VW Golf, which took the third spot in the list - an ideal choice if you’re currently looking for a family hatchback. As Top Gear says, it’s “stylish, perfectly proportioned and offers decent fuel economy in a vast range of engines”. Perhaps this is the car for you!

In fourth, you’ve got the Ford Focus (“reliable, practical and, depending on the model of course, not too financially crippling”) and in fifth there’s the Vauxhall Astra (which delivers “where it matters; comfort, fuel economy and practicality”).

At the latter end of the list, you’ll find the BMW 1 Series in tenth place, which is apparently “good to drive… good infotainment and good interior build quality”... although the more expensive consumables and servicing were also noted.
